Panchkula, August 5

The detective staff of the police have arrested a man for allegedly embezzling Rs2 crore from an arhtiya in Raipur Rani.

The suspect has been identified as Nitin Singla, a resident of Defence Colony, Ambala Cantonment. He and his brother Harsh Singla are accountants at the arhtiya’s shop in the new grain market in Raipur Rani.

Complainant Sanjay Singhal told the police that he came to know about the fraud after farmers complained him that the manager and accountants of my shop were issuing cheques of different amounts in their favour without any procurement and later asking them to repay the amount through cash and cheques in favour of themselves and family members.

Singhal subsequently hired a charted accountant to conduct an audit into the alleged misappropriations, following which the embezzlement of Rs2 crore surfaced.

The complainant said Singla brothers admitted their offence and assured him of returning the entire amount transferred to bank accounts of their family members.

“On July 7, 2021, the two brothers closed their FDRs of Rs26 lakh and Rs24 lakh, respectively, and transferred Rs50 lakh into the account of Singhal’s firm. Though they assured the complainant to transfer the remaining amount from the bank account of their family members, they didn’t do so and rather threatened the complainant with a criminal case against him,” the FIR read.

A case was registered at the Raipur Rani police station in this regard under Sections 120-B, 406, 408, 420 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.
