A local court has rejected the bail application of a Bihar resident, Brij Bhushan Verma, who is facing charges of cheating a city woman of around Rs. 20 lakh on the pretext of supplying her injections used for the treatment of black fungus.

In the complaint, she alleged that the accused cheated her on the pretext of providing her injections used for the treatment of black fungus. The complainant said she was the owner of GA Healthcare Pharma Company. She received a call from a person stating that they were selling liposomal amphotericin B injection for Rs. 4,800 per piece, which she agreed to purchase.

She deposited over Rs. 20 lakh in the bank accounts provided by the accused on different occasions, but she did not receive injections.

The counsel for the accused claimed that he had been falsely implicated in the case. He had been in custody since July 2021.

The public prosecutor said the applicant, in connivance with other accused, cheated the complainant taking undue advantage of the Covid-19 pandemic situation.

After hearing the arguments, the court rejected the bail application in view of the serious allegations against the applicant. —
