Accused in drugs case flees custody, nabbed
An accused in a drugs case escaped custody at the Kharar City police station on Tuesday night, leaving cops huffing and puffing entire night till they were able to nab him in the morning.
Tejveer, the accused was booked in a case registered under the NDPS Act three days ago. He managed to give cops the slip around 11pm on Tuesday. The Kharar City SHO constituted teams to arrest the accused.
Two senior police officials first denied any such incident had taken place, but later confirmed that the peddler has been re-arrested.
Yesterday, the Punjab Police had claimed that in their 10-day-old war against drugs (Yudh Nashian Virudh) campaign, they had registered 988 FIRs under the NDPS Act and arrested 1,360 traffickers.
