Actress Samaira Sandhu is Chandigarh icon for Lok Sabha poll

Chandigarh, February 7

The UT Election Department has announced actress Samaira Sandhu as its state icon during an event organised by the Department of Social Welfare at the Government College of Education in Sector 20 here today.

Expressing her gratitude to the Election Commission of India, Samaira said, “It’s a privilege that comes with a profound responsibility. We live in a democratic country where people from different cultures, religions and castes have a special right to cast their vote. As a state icon, I assure you that I will encourage and make all voters around Chandigarh aware of the need to cast vote and participate in the upcoming General Elections with a great spirit and an unbiased mindset.”

Sorabh Arora, Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Palika Arora, nodal officer, SVEEP, and Director Social Welfare, and Naveen Rattu, Joint Director, Social Welfare, were present on the occasion.

The winner of a poster-making competition on the theme of electoral literacy was felicitated at the end of the event.
