According to the police, Kuldeep Singh (36), a resident of Nayagaon, was nabbed from near the cremation ground in Sector 25 while riding a motorcycle. The police seized 750 gm of charas from his possession. A case has been registered against him at the Sector 11 police station. In another case, a 22-year-old youth, Sanjay, a resident of Mauli Jagran, was nabbed with 50 banned vials. He was arrested from the main road at Mauli Jagran. The pPolice have registered a case against him at the Mauli Jagran police station. TNS
55 girls attend cricket trials
Chandigarh: As many as 55 female cricketers attended trials of the Union Territory Cricket Association (UTCA) at Mahajan Cricket Ground, IT Park, on Tuesday. The trials were held under the supervision of coach Nagesh Gupta and selectors Anoop Sondhi, Ravindra Nain and Kanveer Virdi, along with other office-bearers. Meanwhile, Manan Vohra XI defeated Gurindra Singh XI by five wickets in a friendly match. The squad for Vijay Hazare Trophy will be announced on February 11. TNS
Divyam enters tennis final
Mohali: Third seed Divyam Sharma stunned top seed Ranvir Singh 9-7 to reach the boys’ U-14 final in the ongoing Roots-AITA Challenge Series National Ranking Tennis Championship in Zirakpur. He set up title clash with second seed Anuj Pal, who outclassed Daksh Kapoor 9-3 on Tuesday. In another upset, third seed Isheeta Midha stunned top seed Inaaya Mittal 9-5 to book girls’ U-14 final berth. In the second semi-finals, Shrawasti Kundliya defeated second seed Sidhak Kaur 9-3. TNS
Hockey trials on February 12
Chandigarh: Chandigarh Hockey will organise trials to select boys’ sub-junior team at the Sector 42 Sports Complex on February 12 (2 pm). According to Anil Vohra, secretary, Chandigarh Hockey, the players born on and after January 1, 2005, will be eligible to participate in the trials. The selected team will participate in the 11th Hockey India National Championship at Narwana (Jind) from March 17 to 28. TNS
