Chandigarh Adviser Dharam Pal seeks time-bound schedule for completion of ongoing projects

Chairman-cum-UT Adviser Dharam Pal today directed officials to give a time-bound schedule for the completion of ongoing conservation and preservation projects.

Chairing the 19th meeting of the Chandigarh Heritage Conservation Committee (CHCC), the Adviser told the officials to present the status of all such important projects to the committee in its next meeting.

The meeting was attended by the Finance Secretary-cum-Secretary, Urban Planning, Vijay Namdeorao Zade; MC Commissioner KK Yadav; Estate Officer, UT, Mandip Singh Brar; architect SD Sharma; Dr BN Goswamy, art historian; Prof Rajnish Wattas, former principal, CCA; Chief Engineer-cum-Special Secretary, CB Ojha; Dilmeet Singh Grewal, architect; Dr Pawan Kumar, associate planner; and other officers of the Administration.

A welcome address was delivered by the Chief Architect-cum-Member Convener.

A detailed presentation highlighting the enlisted heritage of the city, background of the constitution of the CHCC and the works taken up till date was made by the Member Convener.

Thereafter, general discussions were held on the heritage matters of the city.

In order to make people aware about the heritage of the city, the chairman directed the officials to disseminate the heritage values to the citizens, urging them to be active stakeholders in line with the edict of Chandigarh.

He also told the officials to install detailed informative signboards in all the heritage buildings of the city.

Meanwhile, some members raised the issue that the committee was ignored in some major decisions taken by the department with regard to the preservation of heritage.
