Chandigarh, October 5

The local unit of the Congress today staged a protest against the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri. Party workers staged a sit-in at Sector 35. Former Union Minister Pawan Bansal said, “In a democracy like this you cannot suppress anyone’s voice. If farmers were protesting the agricultural laws, then you cannot suppress their voice by running a vehicle over them.”

Chandigarh Congress president Subhash Chawla said: “Prime Minister Narendra Modi should visit Lakhimpur Kheri and talk about justice for the deaths of innocent farmers. They should remove their erring minister from the Cabinet. The son of the Union Minister of State for Home should be arrested soon after this massacre.”

Meanwhile, the Youth Congress protested silently outside Gandhi Bhawan in Sector 16 demanding the immediate release of INC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who was detained while on her way to Lakhimpur Kheri. — TNS
