Akal Youth Sikhs faction on Thursday gheraoed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) office in Mohali to protest against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s rejection to release Sikh prisoners lodged in Delhi jails.

Jaswinder Singh Rajpura, leader of the Akal Youth Sikhs Organisation, said they gheraoed the vehicle of AAP Punjab convener Raghav Chadha and did not allow party supporters to leave the office building. “Our members seized the entry gate of the AAP office in Mohali,” he added.

While levelling allegations against Delhi CM, Rajpura said President of India had revoked death penalty of Devider Pal Singh Bhullar, but Kejriwal had rejected the release of prisoners. “Bhullar is in jail from the past 31 years. No law allows 31 years long jail term,” he added.

In 2019, President of India had approved the mercy plea of Prof Bhullar while the punishment review board of the Delhi Government led by CM Kejriwal had rejected his release proposal four times, he said.

He also alleged that the demand for transferring Jagtar Singh Hawara from Delhi to Punjab jail was not met by the Delhi CM. “So, we gheraoed the AAP office and demanded that Kejriwal must review his decision and approve the release of prisoners,” he added. —
