Alert sounded in areas close to Sukhna Choe in Zirakpur

The local Municipal Council today made annoucements asking the slum dwellers and residents living close to the Sukhna Choe to immediately vacate their places and shift to safer locations as a huge amount of water was being released from the Sukhna Lake since the morning.

Sources said the Sukhna level was brought down by around two feet by releasing water into the choe. Autorickshaws fitted with loudspeakers kept patrolling the roads in Zirakpur areas situated along the choe making non-stop announcements. Councillors also alerted residents in risk-prone areas.

Meanwhile, traffic snarls were witnessed on the Chandigarh-Delhi road. Housing societies on the VIP Road, Baltana, Dhakoli, Peer Muchalla and the Lohgarh road witnessed severe waterlogging.
