Allottees to move court against Mohali development authority
The members of the sectors 76-80 Plot Allotment and Development Welfare Committee and Residents Welfare Associations today announced that after repeated requests to Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh fell on deaf ears, they have decided to move court against the hefty land enhancement cost by Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA). The MLA had assured the residents that with CM Bhagwant Mann’s intervention, the hike would be revoked.
“These are empty promises. We have no option left but to go to the courts,” said several members after a meeting, wherein advocates discussed the roadmap ahead.
Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the protestors had gathered outside the GMADA office in Sector 62 a few months ago and staged a protest against the hefty land enhancement cost. More than 1,000 allottees have been receiving notices from the development authority till now. The protestors questioned that the compensation disputes are between GMADA and the farmers/landowners, so why are allottees being penalised for no fault of theirs.
The allottees are protesting charging Rs 3,164 per square metre as additional cost from the allottees/transferees of sectors 76 to 80. This will translate into over Rs 6 lakh for plots measuring 8 marlas and nearly Rs 4 lakh for six marla plots, they alleged.
Enhancement is the increase in compensation paid to a farmer/landowner for the acquisition of their land, which is decided by a court in case they are not satisfied with the price being offered by the government or its development agency.

- Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi said there was an agreement between the Municipal Corporation and GMADA that 25 per cent of the development works conducted by the Mohali civic body will be given by GMADA
- Before this, there was an agreement under which GMADA was to give Rs 50 crore for development of parks to the Municipal Corporation every year, but that too was not given
