Ambala, December 7
Finally, construction work on the four-laning of Ambala-Saha Road has picked up pace. The Rs 220-crore project had begun nine months ago, but due to the model code of conduct, it got delayed.
Home and Health Minister Anil Vij, who had kicked off the work in Ambala Cantonment on June 30 after Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation of the project on March 7.
The 14.84-km-long section of the national highway 44-A, from Ambala Cantonment bus stand to Saha via Tangri River, would be toll-free road and all the public utility services, including overhead electricity wires and cables would be moved underground, said Vij.
He said a bituminous road with service lane on both sides would be built along with nine major and minor bridges, besides 36 culverts to cover the water bodies and drains.
Illegal structures coming in the way of the highway were being razed after the owners had failed to clear them despite repeated notices. The earth filling on both sides to widen the highway has commenced.
Vij directed the NHAI officials to complete the work at the earliest. He also asked the police to make proper traffic diversion arrangements to ensure that commuters do not face any hardship.
