Ambala youth arrested in Sector 54 murder case
The police today claimed to have cracked the recent Sector 54 murder case with the arrest of an Ambala native.
The suspect, identified as Rohit (20), alias Rocky, a resident of Durga Nagar, was arrested from near Entry Gate No. 1 of Ambala Cantt railway station. He is an illiterate labourer with no prior criminal record, claimed the police.
A case was registered at the Sector 39 police station following recovery of the body of a man near a government school in Sector 54. The half-naked body of the victim, later identified as Sandeep, bore visible injury marks on the head, throat, and chest. The crime scene gave no immediate clues about his attacker’s identity.
The police claimed to have scanned over 700 CCTV footage clips from locations across Chandigarh, Mohali, and Ambala. The victim was last seen in the company of the accused in the streets of Ambala Cantt.
On April 23, acting on a tip-off, the police nabbed Rohit. During questioning, he confessed to the crime, said the police. Investigators recovered blood-stained clothing belonging to the deceased from his possession. The motive of the murder is yet to be ascertained.
