Ambulance rams into Mercedes car outside Sector 16 hospital

A collision between a Mercedes car and an ambulance outside the Sector 16 Hospital this afternoon caused brief chaos and disrupted traffic in the area. Both vehicles sustained significant damage in the impact, though no serious injuries were reported.
According to eyewitnesses’ accounts, the Mercedes had halted at the red light near the Sector 16 light point when the speeding ambulance rammed into it from behind. The force of the crash left the ambulance’s front end badly crushed, while the rear of the car was also heavily damaged.
Police sources said the ambulance was transporting a critical heart patient who had been flown from Leh-Ladakh to Chandigarh Airport for further treatment at the PGI. The accident occurred while the patient was en-route to the institute. Following the collision, the ambulance staff acted quickly to stabilise the patient. A second ambulance was called and the patient was transferred.
Officers from the Sector 16 police station and the traffic police arrived at the spot and the vehicles were cleared from the road. The police have launched an inquiry into the incident to determine the exact cause of the crash.
