Chandigarh, August 19

The pair of Aayush Anand and Hiyan Yadav won the boys’ U-11 doubles final by defeating Kanwarjeet and Riaan Panchal 21-7, 21-15, during the YONEX Sunrise Chandigarh State Senior and Junior Badminton Championships, that concluded at Centre of Excellence for Badminton, Sector 38 Sports Complex.

The pair of Aadya Singh Meena and Kaylin won the girls’ Under-11 doubles final by posting a 21-16, 17-21 and 21-16 win over Arnaaz Kaur and Ashwika Sharma.

In the girls’ U-19 doubles final, Ridhima Saini and Tashvi Goel easily overpowered Anupriya and Raissa Bhanot 21-14, 21-15, while Jasmeet Kaur and Naina Trehan won the women’s doubles final by logging a 20-22, 21-19 and 21-17 victory over Mehnoor Kaur and Mili Verma.

Akul Malik and Nimar Kaur Virk defeated Suryansh Raghav and Raissa Bhanot 21-19 and 21-8 to win the U-19 mixed doubles final, while in the boys’ U-19 doubles final, Krishna and Rehaan defeated Aaditya and Rana Rudra Pratap Singh 23-21 and 26-24. Samarveer Sharma won the men’s final by defeating second seed Dhruv Bansal 21-12, 21-17.

TSBA team shine

The players of the Tricity Shuttlers Badminton Academy (TSBA) dominated in the championship. Samarveer of TSBA was declared the best player of the tournament and was awarded the trophy instituted by the Chandigarh Badminton Association in the memory of Wing Commander Satish Bhatia, former national champion and international player. Madhu Bhatia, wife of Satish Bhatia, handed over the trophy. In the women’s category, Rijul of TSBA was awarded the best player of the tournament. Akul of Sector 38 Sports Complex won the overall U-19 singles trophy. Priyank Bharti president, Chandigarh Badminton Association, awarded the winners and congratulated the participants.
