Anju Chander elected Kharar MC president
AAP councillor Anju Chander (Ward No.16) was elected Kharar Municipal Council president unopposed in a special meeting today.
All 25 members present in the House raised their hands in support of Chander, who thanked Kharar MLA Anmol Gagan Maan for bringing the party in power.
Earlier, she had held the post of president in the SAD-BJP ruling till 2017.
She thanked Municipal Councillors and city residents for placing their faith in her and assured them that all the pending civic works would be promptly taken up.
A no confidence motion was called on May 16 and 23 members of the 29-member House took part in it. Twenty members out of 23 voted out Kharar Municipal Council president Jaspreet Kaur Longia of SAD.
Kharar MLA Anmol Gagan Maan said, "Developmental works will begin from tomorrow onwards. Whichever work residents ask will begin immediately. Now there is no one to stop us. There’s just a little more than a year left. All the works would be done in full speed."
Anju Chander had contested as Congress candidate in February 2021. She lost the last civic body elections but secured victory in the bypolls in December 2024 after the death of the sitting councillor.
