Chandigarh, August 10

Three days after an Additional District and Sessions Judge tested Covid-19 positive, another Judge of the District Court, Chandigarh, tested positive today.

As per information, Punita Bashamboo, Judicial Magistrate (First Class), contracted the virus. The District and Sessions Judge has assigned her duties to Mandeep Singh Kainth, Civil Judge-cum Judicial Magistrate (First Class), for August 11, 13 and 15 in addition to his own duties.

The staff that came in contact with the judge over the last few days has been asked to go for self-quarantine.

In a separate order, the District and Sessions Judge has asked Bashamboo not to attend office.

The case has come at a time when Registrar-General of the High Court has sought suggestions from the District and Sessions Judges on limited physical hearing in district and subordinate courts.

The high court as well as subordinate courts in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh are working in a restricted manner.
