Chandigarh, January 3

Armaan Walia rallied from a set down to beat Daksh Kapoor in an intense boys’ U-12 semifinal match in the Roots-AITA Talent Series (TS7) National Rankings Championship at Zirakpur today.

Walia lost the opening set 6-7(4), but fought his way back into the match with a 7-6(1) win in the second set. He then nailed the decider 6-2 to seal a berth in the final, where he will meet Aksh Jood.

Jood after losing the opening set 3-6 against Vansh Sharma, came back strongly to win the remaining two sets 6-4 6-1 and move into the final.

Radha stuns Shriya

In the girls’ U-14 contest, Radha prevailed over second seed Shriya Singh in a nerve-wrenching semifinal. Radha lost the first set 3-6, but drew level with a 7-6(3) win in the second set. In the decider, she humbled Shriya 7-5.

In the other semifinal, Ayushi Prajapat downed Shrawasti Kundilya 6-4 6-4.

Isheeta Midha stunned top seed Inaaya Mittal 6-1 6-2 in the girls’ U-12 semifinals. She will square off with second seed Akshdha Sharma in the final. Akshdha had an easy outing against Gurnaaz Toor. She won 6-3 6-4.

Harwin-Hardik triumph

Meanwhile, second seed pair of Harwin Singh and Hardik Khanduja edged out Umang Singh and Divyam Sharma 6-2 6-4 to win the boys’ U-14 doubles title.

Earlier, in the semifinals, Umang and Divyam Sharma upset top seeds Anuj Pal and Kanvarpreet Singh 6-0 6-2, while Harwin and Khanduja prevailed 6-2 5-7 (10-8) over Samarpit Bhatia and Aryan Jolly .

In the girls’ U-14 doubles semis, Ayushi and Akshdha stunned top seed pair of Shrawasti and Inaaya 6-4 7-6(1), while second seeds Isheeta and Shriya packed off Gurnaaz and Tamanna 6-1 7-6(7).
