Top seed Armaan Walia lived up to his billing as he packed off Shaurya Goyal in straight sets to enter the boys’ U-12 quarterfinals on the opening day of the Roots-AITA Talent Series (TS7) National Ranking Championship at Zirakpur today. Walia won 6-0 6-0.

Second seed Ayaan Modi registered a 6-2 6-1 win over Sarthak Jaglan in the pre-quarterfinals, while third seed Kavin Grover humbled Himanish Brinda 6-4 6-1. Gopal Jee edged out Shresht Singh 6-4 7-5.

Kirtarth Singh survived a tough last-16 encounter against Akhil Beniwal. He won 6-2 3-6 (11-9). Gaurish Madaan thrashed Rudra Pratap Singh 6-0 6-0 and Aarush Sharma rallied from a set down to beat Abhinav Sangra 3-6 6-2 (10-6).

Aditya prevails

In the boys’ U-14 competition, Aditya Rathore overcame a resilient Kavin Grover in the opening round.

Rathore won the opening set 7-6(0), but Grover claimed the second set 6-1 to draw level. Rathore though regained composure and seized the decider 10-7 to move into the last-16.

Satvik Singla came back from a set to beat Aarya Vaibhav 3-6 6-3 (10-7), while Gunnzit Singh survived 6-3 5-7 (10-8) against Karen Singh.

Gurkirat Singh opened his campaign with a 6-1 6-2 win over Shaurya Goyal, while Prabir Singh drubbed Shresht Singh 6-2 6-2. Arsh Vij ousted Tanishq 6-0 6-2.

Armaan Walia advanced to the pre-quarterfinals with a 6-1 6-0 win over Iren Singh. Samarpit Bhatia dumped Purahan Gupta 6-0 6-0 and Athrav Khanna defeated Pyara Singh 6-1 6-3. Tanav Gupta came from behind to beat Abhinav Sangra 4-6 6-0 (10-6).
