Arms smuggler arrested in Mohali
He has reportedly admitted his involvement in the smuggling of illegal arms, procured through his contacts operating out of Madhya Pradesh
The police arrested a man after recovering a 0.32-bore pistol along with five live cartridges from him. The team and also impounded the car being used by the accused.
Preliminary interrogation has brought to light that the accused, Harmeet, alias Meeta, a resident of Haat village in Safidon, Haryana, and presently living in Kandala, Phase 11, has a criminal past.
The accused has been booked in multiple cases including those related to dacoity, the Arms Act and the NDPS Act in Bathinda, Barnala and Rohtak.
He has reportedly admitted his involvement in the smuggling of illegal arms, procured through his contacts operating out of Madhya Pradesh. Cops said Harmeet further disclosed that he had been in regular touch with foreign-based individuals.
Harmeet also confirmed receiving foreign funds from abroad to facilitate illegal activities. Investigation on the financial angles is being done by police to identify the forward and backward linkages.
