ASI held in bribery case sent to 14-day judicial custody
A CBI court has sent Sher Singh, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the UT police, to 14-day judicial custody. The CBI produced the accused before the court today after he was arrested while allegedly accepting bribe on Tuesday evening.
The CBI received a complaint against ASI Sher Singh deployed at the Sector-43 police post from a person identified as Davinder Singh. He said the ASI was demanding Rs 10, 000 bribe for not arresting him in a cheque-bounce case. Since Davinder did want to pay bribe, he approached the CBI. The CBI laid a trap and arrested the accused while receiving bribe from a middleman. The court also sent another accused Rinku to judicial custody who was arrested in the case. During arguments, the court questioned CBI officers for not informing family members of the accused after his arrest and remind them regarding directions of the Supreme Court in this regard.
