The Cerebral Palsy Sports Society of Punjab organised an event at the neighbourhood park in Phase 11 to honour those para athletes who have made Punjab proud at the national level.

These athletes had won medals at the third National Para Swimming Championship held from October 3 to 6, 2024, in Nadiad, Gujarat, and at the 13th Junior and Sub-Junior Para Athletics Championship held from July 15 to 17, 2024, in Bengaluru.

Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi, while applauding the athletes, said these players, living with cerebral palsy, were a shining example of courage, determination and self-confidence. “Their success tells us that when morale is high, no obstacle can stand in the way. These athletes are not only winning medals but are becoming a source of inspiration for everyone,” he added.

Among the special guests present were Gurmel Singh Sidhu (Brampton, Canada) and his wife Sukhinder Kaur Sidhu, Councillor Kulwant Singh Kaler, Former Councillor Sukhwinder Singh Barnala, social worker Dr. Maninder Kaur Gandhi, Principal Manjeet Kaur, Harkamal Singh (Silver Medalist in Asian Games 1978 and former Chief Coach of India), athletics coach Babita, Chander Shekhar, Ajaib Singh (Bakarpur), Gurmeet Singh Sian, Balveer Singh Sohal, Manjeet Oberoi, Chief Engineer D.S. Maan, and Development Officer Satish Kumar Sharma.

During the ceremony, certificates were also given to Mangal Singh (Attari, Amritsar), Vishal, Tamanna, Kishan (Mohali), Harmajot Singh (Kurali), Muskan Malot (Muktsar Sahib), Gurjeet Kaur (village Raipur Khurd, Chandigarh), Anushka (Jagatpura, Mohali), Ramandeep Singh, and Balwant Singh (Fatehgarh Sahib).

Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi, while appreciating the efforts of the society, said that both the government and society must provide more opportunities and resources for such athletes so that they can reach even greater heights.
