A day after an ABVP member was attacked at Panjab University (PU) campus, the police have registered a case against unknown persons, suspected to be affiliated to SFS. The cops have also procured the CCTV footage in which the suspects were seen attacking the victim Divyansh Sharma.
Divyansh, a student of UICET, was attacked outside Boys Hostel No 3. He was rushed to the GMSH-16, Chandigarh, where he received three stitches on his lips.
The police said the suspects are seen thrashing the complainant in the video. “Although the complainant has given names of a few persons involved in the attack, however, we will first verify the suspects through the CCTV footage before adding their names in the FIR,” said a police official.
There were around nine persons involved in the incident, said a police official.
A case under sections 147 (rioting), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC has been registered at Sector 11 police station.
The police officials said the complainant claimed that he used to receive threats on phone in the past and the suspects used to stare him, however, the exact cause of attack will only be ascertained after the arrests are made.
