Mohali, February 14
Within a week after Chandigarh Tribune published how Phase 3A of Mohali was turned into a parking lot for private buses, the authorities concerned have removed the buses from the site. As per the officials, strict warnings have also been issued to the bus operators.
On February 7, Chandigarh Tribune had reported how private bus operators had been parking their buses illegally in front of the Phase 3-A market and on the road too. Despite warning by the Municipal Corporation (MC) and the Deputy Commissioner (DC), the practice was going on unabated for the past many years. Around six to seven buses could be spotted in the parking area of the market. Another two to three big buses could also be seen on the main road in front of the market.
Three days ago, a team of the Additional District Transport Officer (ADTO) and in-charge, zone-3 of Mohali, visited the site and ordered the bus operators to remove their buses from the roadside.
Sukhwinder Kumar, secretary, Regional Transport Authority, said, “On being given strict instructions, the ADTO went to the site to examine the situation. The operators were told to stop the illegal practice.” He said, “I have also checked the status by going to the site today and found that no bus was parked along the road.”
Inspector Rajiv Kumar, SHO of the Mataur police station, said he had already issued challans to a few bus operators for wrong parking in Phase 3A.
The illegally parked private buses were creating a chaos for the commuters. Traders were facing inconvenience too as most of the times, buses remained parked outside their shops and tea stalls.
