A 27-year-old auto driver has been arrested by the UT police for allegedly raping a woman passenger on Sunday night. He has been identified as Jagdev, alias Upinder, a resident of Daria village.

The police said the victim was abandoned by the suspect near the Haryana Mini-Secretariat. Security personnel noticed her and informed the police. The victim said she had come from Delhi to meet a friend residing at Mauli Jagran. However, her friend was not at home following which she came to the railway station from where she hired an auto for the ISBT, Sector 17.

On the way, the auto driver drove the victim towards a secluded place near the Haryana Mini-Secretariat and raped her.

The police registered a case at the Sector 17 police station. The auto driver was later arrested. He was produced before a court, which sent him to judicial custody. —TNS
