Keeping in mind the safety of passengers, the UT Administration has directed all the auto-rickshaw and e-rickshaw operators to affix acrylic or plastic transparent sheet only.

It has been observed that the auto-rickshaw and e-rickshaw operators have affixed black sheets or curtains in their vehicles in order to save themselves and passengers from rain or cold weather. Such curtains are not permissible in law.

As per Rule 100 of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989, in case of three-wheelers and vehicles with hood and side covers the windows may be of acrylic or plastic transparent sheet. The administration said the exercise should complete by February 28, failing which the autos and e-rickshaws will be challaned or impounded as per rules.
