In a bid to check illegal mining, the district administration has ordered the Mining Department officials to replace the existing CCTV cameras at the interstate checkposts with automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras.

Aashika Jain, DC, said the district would become the first in the state to have such a system. Apart from the existing three interstate checkposts set up at Siswan T-point, Daffarpur and Handesra, one more has been approved for the Derabassi-Barwala road. Twelve guards would also be hired from the Punjab Ex-Servicemen Corporation to deploy them on all four checkposts. The checkposts will make sure that any vehicle carrying mining material must have a QR code generated GST bill.
