Ayesha, Alfaiz win carrom meet at Chandigarh

St Stephen’s School, Sector 45, student Ayesha and Gurukul Global, Mani Majra, student Mohammed Alfaiz won the girls’ and boys’ singles titles, respectively, at the seventh Inter-School Carrom Championship organised by the Chandigarh Carrom Association.

In the girls’ final, Ayesha recorded an one-sided 21-0 victory over Gursimran of Lawrence Public, Mohali. Khushi Aggarwal of Gurukul Global claimed the third position by defeating Viriti Kapoor of Lawrence School 19. In the semifinals, Ayesha had beaten Viriti Kapoor 21-0, while Gursimran had ousted Khushi Aggarwal 19–0. Ayesha had been on a rampage throughout the tournament, having also defeated Gurleen 21-0 in the quarterfinals. Viriti Kapoor had outplayed Samaira 6-0, while Gursimran had gotten the better of Girnkahi 21-0 and Khushi had beaten Rani Gupta 6-4.

In the boy’s event, Alfaiz outclassed his team mate Shoyab 21-9 to win the title. Arnav Garg of Lawrence School finished at third position by recording 14-4 win over Inderjeet Singh of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16. Shoyab had recorded a tight 13-12 win over Inderjeet Singh in the first semifinal, while Alfzia defeated Garg 21-6. In quarterfinals, Inderjeet defeated Hamza Khan 18-4, Shoyab ousted Mehtab 11-10, Garg defeated Anish 4-3 and Alfaiz outplayed Abhinav Sharma 21-8.
