Badminton tourney: Punjab’s Mayank Behl moves to semis

Top seed Punjab’s Mayank Behl faced a tough resistance from Prince Sharma of Himachal Pradesh before logging a (21-11, 16-21, 21-9) win in a men’s 35+ quarterfinal match during the ongoing All-India Masters Badminton Tournament at the Sector 38 Sports Complex, here today.
Second seed Peeyush Aggarwal defeated Punjab’s Anuj Dhand (21-5, 21-10) to move ahead, while Yogesh Chauhan defeated Anuj Bhasker (21-19, 21-10) and Ankush Joshi ousted Lakwinder Singh (21-19, 21-11).
In the women’s 35+ category, Aditi Rode outplayed Nalini Malik (21-11, 21-9). Mansi Kohli outplayed Nidhi Kumar (21-12, 21-8), Manju Hooda thrashed Nisha Jain (21-5, 21-5) and Sreelakshmi Rao outplayed Binny Bansal (21-14, 21-9).
In the men’s 45+ quarterfinals, top seed Arvind Sharma defeated Sanjeev Goal (21-19, 21-14), Jayendra Dhole ousted Anil K Srivastava (21-11, 21-13), Vijay Sharma defeated Opinder Pal Kalsi (22-20, 18-21, 21-12) and Ajay Pal Singh outplayed Rajesh Khandelwal (21-18, 21-9).
In the men’s doubles 60+ quarterfinals, Anil Gurkha and Sunil Gurkha defeated Amod Pal Singh and Tej Pal Makkar (21-12, 21-14). Suresh Mehta and Umesh Agarwal outplayed Balbir Singh and Sat Pal Anugurala (21-17, 21-17). The pair of Rakesh Bansal and Vipin Sharma defeated Ishwar Chand Chawla and Sushil Bahuguna (21-18, 21-7). In the women’s doubles 45+ quarterfinal, Lavita and Seema defeated Sheetal Somani and Suchitra Misra (21-18, 21-18).
Rajeev Sharma moved ahead in the men’s 55+ semi-finals by defeating Sandeep Mahajan (21-15, 21-6). Sajeev Virmani defeated Narinder Sharma (21-19, 21-11) and VSK Lingeshwar Rao outplayed Rakesh Singh (21-7, 21-12).
In the men’s 40+ category, Abhinn Shyam Gupta defeated Vinay Thakur (21-3, 21-3) and Harsh Rawat outplayed Akash Walia (21-13, 21-13).
In the men’s doubles 50+ event, Navdeep Singh and Rajneesh Bhatia defeated Alok Mishra and Dinesh Saini (21-14, 21-15), Jitendra Bist and Kamal Dang ousted Chetan Vohra and Yogesh Sanghavi (21-16, 18-21, 21-19) and Manish and Vijayendra Kumar blanked Rajesh Grover and Sandeep Sharma (21-16, 21-13).
In the men’s 65+ category, Mukesh stunned top seed Sat Pal Angurala (21-17, 21-14), Anil Sondhi defeated Dinesh Burai (21-18, 16-21, 22-20) and Sharad Mahajan outplayed Sudhakar Sharma (21-14, 17-21, 21-19).
