Bagwe Gaurang moves into next round in U-17 national chess championship
Chandigarh, July 16
Maharashtra’s Bagwe Gaurang recorded a one-point victory over Delhi’s Gopalakrishnan G during the second round of the open category on the opening day of the 34th National U-17 Open Chess Championship.
Maharashtra’s Jaiveer Mahendru defeated Haryana’s Vyom Malhotra, while Vignesh Advaith Vemula ousted Shreyas Raj of Uttar Pradesh. Nandish VS of Tamil Nadu ousted Richard Solomon M, Rohan Kumar Gourabathuni outplayed Mukund Hemant Agarwal, Sriram Adarsh Uppala ousted Maharashtra’s Elesh Tripathi and Koustuv Dash defeated Parth Belwal with identical scores of 1-0.
Punjab’s Utkrisht Tuli played draw against Jaidambareesh NR of Tamil Nadu, while Vaibhav Nema of Madhya Pradesh defeated Jihan Tejas Shah. Adhithya B of Tamil Nadu went down against Jval Saurin Patel of Gujarat and Swarna Nihal defeated Vismay Sachar.
Srikara Darbha faced a 0-1 defeat against Arpith S Bijoy of Kerala and Rohith S defeated Atrinjay Saha. Atiksh Thakur of Himachal Pradesh surprised Haryana’s Arshpreet Singh with a 1-0 verdict, followed by Manav Kumar’s win over Kavin Vijayakumar. Geet Jain went down 0-1 against Shadhursshaan R of Tamil Nadu, Gokul Krishna S defeated Medhvansh Madeti and Shashank K faced defeat against Arul Prakash N.
Nithik Reddy Bhavanam also moved into round 3 by defeating Niladri Banerjee, while Advika Sarupria faced a 0-1 defeat against Swastik Singhal. Vivaan Rana played a draw against Tanna Krish Alpeshbhai of Gujarat, while Allen Varghese easily overpowered Vatsal Singla. Arnav Mahesh Koli also moved into the next round by defeating Dhruv Singh Bisht, and Aditri Shome faced a 0-1 defeat against Nimay Agrawal.
Kadam Arnav faced a 0-1 defeat against Shubh Kapur, and Aaryan Amol Waghmare played draw against Banik Hrishikesh Kumar. Samarth Sreeni Warrier defeated Raj Kapoor, Monil Maroo ousted Sundram Kumar, Abhash Roimya Saikia beat Arhan Jain and Chaudhari Ashish outplayed Rishabh Pradhan. Ekaaksha Partap Singh Negi played a ½ – ½ draw against Venkatesh Das.
