Mahajan and Dagar are among five accused arrested in the case so far. Mahajan was arrested on March 2, along with another accused Manish Gupta, soon after the police registered an FIR in the alleged fraud case against nine persons.

The police registered the case against the accused under Sections 452, 331, 344, 365, 386, 419, 420, 465, 468, 471, 473, 474, 477 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Sector 39 police station.

As per the FIR, the accused allegedly sold a house of Rahul Mehta in Sector 37, Chandigarh, fraudulently. It is alleged that an imposter, Rahul Mehta, was produced before the office of sub-registrar at the time of execution of sale deed of the house. The police alleged that Dagar brought another accused, Gurpreet Singh, as proxy of Rahul Mehta before the office of sub-registrar.
