Bali takes back consent for elevation as HC Judge

Chandigarh, February 6
A year after his consent was taken for elevation as a Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, senior advocate Puneet Bali has expressed his disinclination by withdrawing the same. Available information suggests that Bali has sent a letter to the High Court Chief Justice for withdrawing his consent after citing a long gap in between as a reason. Bali has reportedly stated that his intent while giving the consent was to serve the institution, which he would continue to do even now.
Bali is the highest taxpayer advocate and has handled several high-profile and sensitive cases before the High Court and the Supreme Court. He was also a counsel for Punjab MLA Bikram Singh Majithia in a case filed against him and former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal. He also represented the organisation granted stay by the High Court against the felling of trees for the Tribune flyover.
Bali, when contacted, did not comment but said he had for the last one year put all his plans on hold. Since his children were young, he felt it was unfair to put all their plans on the back burner.
