The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge has awarded seven-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a resident of Balongi for carrying banned injections. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 90,000 on convict Shivam Yadav, a resident of Balongi, Mohali.
According to prosecution, police officials on patrolling duty in Sector 11 saw the accused person coming from the Sector 15 side with a bag in his right hand on March 10, 2018. On seeing the police, the accused immediately turned back. On getting suspicious, the police team intercepted him. On checking, 10 injections of buprenorphine and 10 injections of pheniramine maleate were found from the bag.
The convict, who disclosed his name as Shivam Yadav, could not produce any licence or permit to carry the injections. Following this, a case under the NDPS Act was registered against him and he was arrested.
“The accused has failed to establish that he is innocent and falsely implicated in this case. The prosecution by leading cogent and reliable evidence has proved the charge against the accused beyond shadow of reasonable doubt,” observed the court.
