Former Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal has urged Punjab Governor and UT Administrator to take steps to halt the flight of industry from the city. In a letter to the Governor, Bansal recalled the Industrial Area was an integral part of Chandigarh’s original master plan. Industrialists were invited and allotted plots of varying sizes to set up units, he said. Later, Industrial Area Phase II was developed in Ramdarbar and land for a third phase was also earmarked. However, administrative indifference and an inability to address the growing needs of industry had driven entrepreneurs to relocate to Mohali and Panchkula.

Highlighting key concerns, Bansal said outdated and rigid regulations continued to stifle growth and modernisation, despite repeated representations from stakeholders.
