Haryana Assembly Speaker and local MLA Gian Chand Gupta launched beautification projects in the Mansa Devi Complex (MDC) area and Saketri worth Rs1.5 crore today.

Gupta also inaugurated a vending zone, “Pandit Deendyal Upadhyay Market”, in Sector 15 to rid the sector of illegal vendors.

The beautification projects of the MDC include construction of a well-equipped entrance gate from IT Park to Panchkula, construction of a road from the MDC to the temple located at Manav Colony, beautification of a pond in Ward No. 8 and repair and construction of a boundary wall of the cremation ground at Mahadevpur in Saketri.

Gupta said the vending zone was a big gift from the Municipal Corporation for toiling vendors.

He said the vending zone project was conceived about three years ago and a survey was conducted to verify the actual number of vendors. He said after a scrutiny of the vendors’ list, many addresses were found fake. He said later it was decided that only those who were residents of Panchkula or working in Panchkula would be allowed to work in the vending zone.

He said 715 sites had been identified in Sector 2, 4, 8, 10, 11, 12, 15 and 19 in the city, where work of creating vending zones had been started.

He said vendors could get their own e-carts prepared after getting the design from the MC office. He said if anyone tried to coerce vendors to take a stall from a particular company, a complaint in this regard could be submitted to Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal. Strict action would be taken on such complaints, he said. — TNS
