Bengal beat Punjab to lift U-15 trophy

Bengal eves recorded a 47-run win over Punjab to win the Women’s U-15 One Day Trophy, at the RCA Academy Ground, Jaipur. Bengal won the toss and elected to bat. The side posted 157/8 in 35 overs. The top order batters made important contributions for the side, as opener Adrija Sarkar posted 62 of 63 balls, with eight boundaries and two sixes, and Toriya Singha Roy scored 43 of 68 balls, with seven boundaries. Sandipta Patra (22 off 29 balls) was the other notable scorer for the side.

No other batter could reach double figures for Bengal. Aastha remained the pick of the bowlers as she claimed 4/28, while Disha Saini and Jyoti claimed two wickets each. In reply, Punjab could only score 110/6 in allotted overs. Jyoti (25 off 50 balls, with one boundary) and Varsha Rani (24 off 42 balls, with one boundary) were the top scorers for the side. Ryzel Kaur Sanhu (19) and Pehal Sharma (14) also tried their best, but Punjab failed to achieve the target.

Debjani Das and Sandipta claimed two wickets each, while Snigdha Bag took one wicket for the bowling side.

Reaching the finals of the tournament not only marked a significant achievement for Punjab cricket, but also inspired young players across the nation to pursue excellence in the sport, said Dilsher Khanna, Secretary, Punjab Cricket Association.
