Bharat bandh call: Chandigarh Congress extends support to farmers

The city Congress has decided to support the ‘Bharat Bandh’ call given by the farmers for tomorrow to press for their demands.

In a press statement, HS Lucky, city Congress president, alleged, “The Modi government has cheated the farmers by not fulfilling their demands. The government is merely indulging in a formality by holding talks with farmers and not taking any concrete steps. Farmers wanted to go to Delhi and register their protest peacefully, but Manohar Lal Khattar-led BJP government in Haryana has installed barricades and the police are firing tear gas shells and torturing farmers.”

“Farmers are the food providers of the country. They have the democratic right to protest for their rights, but the BJP is adopting a dictatorial attitude with its repressive policies. Earlier also, the government had bowed down to the demands of the farmers and had to take back three black laws, but 700 precious lives were lost in the process. As soon as the INDIA government is formed at the Centre, it will fulfil the farmers’ demands, including guaranteeing the MSP,” he said.

“The Congress fully supports the farmers’ Bharat Bandh tomorrow and is with them in their fight for their rights,” added Lucky.
