Chandigarh, February 7
Delhi’s Bikramjeet Chawla overpowered top seed Atharva Sharma of Maharashtra as the latter conceded the match after losing the first set during a men’s quarterfinal match of the CLTA-AITA National Ranking Tennis Championship. Chawla won the first set 6-3 and was leading the second 3-2 when Sharma passed the match.
Punjab’s Paramveer Bajwa recorded an easy 6-2 6-1 win over Rakshak Tarun V of Tamil Nadu, while Haryana’s Aditya Mor ousted Manipur’s Bhicky Sagolshem 6-3 7-5. Arjun Rathi was leading 7-6 (5) over Punjab’s Dalwinder Singh, when the latter decided to leave the match owing to an injury.
In the women’s quarterfinals, top seed Anjali Rathi of Haryana logged a 7-5 6-1 win over Ritu Rai of Uttar Pradesh, and Mahika Khanna defeated Ruma Ashutosh Gaikaiwari 7-6(2) 6-3. Ishwari Anant Matere of Maharashtra edged past Saily Prashantkumar Thakkar 6-3 2-6 6-2, and Sahira Singh defeated Snigdha Ruhil 6-2 6-1.
In the women’s doubles semifinals, the pair of Ishwari Marere and Ruma ousted Satakshika Sahayak and Jigyasa Narsinghani 6-0 6-0, while Mrinalini Sharma and Anjali Rathi defeated Milli Pandit and Krittika Katoch 6-2 6-3.
