Even as he admitted he worked out hardest leaving nothing to chance on his way to win Beijing, Abhinav Bindra today said his biggest life challenge came after winning the coveted gold.

“Winning individual Olympic gold in shooting was what I had oriented my whole life towards, said Bindra during a free-spirited exchange at TiECon-2020 at the ISB.

Responding to a query, the iconic sportsman said he zeroed in on shooting as he hated physical exercise. “I was on the fatter side during my childhood days at the boarding school and I hated any form of exercise,” Bindra said.

All I had to do was to just stand and concentrate on shooting, he said to a thunderous applause.

Talking about the pressure of winning an Olympic gold, Bindra said a night before the Beijing finals, he was so anxious that he was unable to sleep.

“I had stolen a Jack Daniel’s miniature while checking out from the Munich hotel before boarding for Beijing Olympics. I took out that bottle and drank it to calm my nerves which led me to win gold the next morning,” Bindra said to a rapturous applause from the jam-packed hall. “I knew this bit of information would resonate the most,” Bindra quipped.
