Chandigarh, April 13

Twelve companies have showed interest in the pre-bids for the bioremediation of the 7.67 lakh metric tonne of legacy waste at the dumping ground.

The companies have given some suggestions to the MC. Those found feasible will be considered by the civic body following which the interested agencies will file final bids.

The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs will partially fund the Rs. 77-crore project.

At present, 5 lakh metric tonne of waste lying at the dumping ground is being biomined and the work is expected to be completed by the next year. Around 60 per cent of the waste has been removed so far.

The MC has asked bulk waste generators to do the composting of the wet waste. It has already set up 57 horticulture compost pits in parks and 40 are under construction.
