Bishnoi gang member held after encounter in Dera Bassi
A member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was arrested after an encounter with the Mohali police and the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) at a paying guest accommodation on the Gulabhgarh road in Dera Bassi this afternoon.
Sumit Bishnoi, a native of Rajasthan, was wanted for the murder of Mahavir Sihag in Hanumangarh on May 18. He was murdered on the directions of Arzoo Bishnoi, a key member of the gang.
A total of three shooters had carried out the murder, two of whom were already arrested. The Inspector General (IG), Bikaner Range, had announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for anyone providing information leading to Sumit’s arrest.
“He was staying in a paying guest accommodation. The police surrounded him today. When the team asked the accused to surrender, he opened fire at the cops,” said Dera Bassi DSP Bikramjit Singh Brar.
In the retaliatory fire, he was injured and nabbed. The police recovered his weapon along with cartridges.
The injured gangster was later shifted to the Dera Bassi subdivisional hospital, said SP (D) Saurav Jindal.
