A 34-year-old shopkeeper was stabbed to death by another trader over business rivalry at Bapu Dham Colony (BDC), Sector 26, today. His wife suffered injuries in the attack.

The victim has been identified as Avtar Singh Nehra and his wife Simranjeet.

The police said Avtar owned a toy shop at the colony and the assailant, Krishan, also ran a toy shop nearby. The victim’s wife was also attacked by Krishan when she intervened.

The assailant fled the spot after the incident. The police were informed and both injured were rushed to the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, where the doctors declared Avtar dead on arrival. His wife was referred to the PGI.

The police have registered a murder case and arrested Krishan. Avtar is survived by three children — two sons aged 12 years and nine years, and one daughter aged over one year.
