BJP, Cong candidates file papers from Kalka Assembly constituency
The BJP’s Kalka candidate Shakti Rani Sharma filed her nomination papers this morning. She was accompanied by her son and Member of Parliament Kartikeya Sharma. Sharma led a roadshow from the party’s camp office in Kalka to the Kali mata temple in the city in the afternoon.
Congress’s Pardeep Chaudhary also held a roadshow from the mandi in Kalka to the SDM’s office. He was joined by hundreds, who marched with his cavalcade. The gathering held a march through the city streets, carrying party posters and flags in their hands.
Talking to mediapersons, Chaudhary lambasted the BJP rule, saying people of the state as well as the Kalka Assembly constituency were faced with numerous problems. “Be it civic issues such as the stray cattle menace, traffic management and road infrastructure or waste management, the people of Panchkula were fed-up of the BJP rule in the state,” he said.
Meanwhile, in Panchkula, the BJP’s candidate Gian Chand Gupta filed his nomination papers at the Mini-Secretariat in the city. Accompanied by former Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb, BJP district president Deepak Sharma, Banto Kataria and numerous other party workers, he held a roadshow ‘pad-yatra’ from sector 10-11 Tava chowk upto Major Sandeep Shankla memorial.
Talking to journalists, after filing his papers, Gupta said the Congress party had failed to issue the name of its candidate from Panchkula. He said, “The Congress party stands divided in various groups.” Biplab Kumar Deb also attacked the Congress party saying it was scattered. “A leader of the Congress party is abroad, another is in the hospital, while they are yet to announce the names of their candidates,” he said.
