The action was taken by the SP and DSP in the presence of the Dera Bassi SDM.
The BJP has been running a large-scale outreach drive in rural areas under the banner ‘BJP de sewadar aa gaye ne tuhade dwar’ for some time.
Vashisht and other leaders accused Punjab’s AAP government of “forcibly stopping” the initiative by deploying police.
Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation into the collection of people’s personal data by “unauthorised individuals acting on behalf of political parties”. The state government has urged people to report such cases, stressing that collection or use of personal data without consent is a punishable offence.
Vashisht said that no matter how much “high-handedness” the government employed, the people of Punjab were “silently observing everything”. He added that in the 2027 Assembly elections, the public would give a strong response at the ballot box.
