Blended mode of teaching rests on misplaced notion: PUTA

Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) has submitted a feedback on the ‘Blended Mode of Teaching & Learning’ to the UGC Chairman.
“The blended mode of learning has been propagated as student centered, giving them flexibility and liberty to ‘pick teachers and timings’, ‘frame courses’, ‘design degrees’, ‘study on any mode’ and ‘learning or exams on demand’. While the jargons appear quite flashy and intellectually attractive, these rest on misplaced notions in view of the ground reality,” PUTA stated in a letter to UGC Chairman.
“There are huge disparities among students currently enrolled in higher education institutions in terms of their access to media and digital technology. The very idea of excessive dependence upon online teaching in current state of digital divide is against ‘social inclusion’ and would further marginalise students on the basis of gender, location, poverty, etc…,” stated PUTA.
“Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM) Regulations – 2021, using the credit framework for online learning courses and the ABC model, is a direct and concerted attempt to erode the time-tested system of higher education and research based on face-to-face pedagogic contact with the students,” it added.
