Board cancels allotment of 20 small flats over rental dues
The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) has cancelled the allotment of 20 more units under the Small Flats Scheme over non-payment of dues. With this, the board has cancelled nearly 200 such allotments in the past three months, citing outstanding payments running into crores.
These flats, allotted under a rental scheme, required occupants to pay a minimum monthly rent starting from Rs 800. However, many allottees have failed to deposit the rent for several years, leading to a massive outstanding payment.
The CHB stated that despite issuing multiple notices and offering hearings, the defaulters did not clear their dues, leaving it with no option but to cancel the allotments.
The latest 20 cancelled flats are located in Sectors 56 and 38 (West), Dhanas and Ram Darbar. A total of Rs 30.54 crore in the form of rent was pending against these units. Each defaulter reportedly owed the CHB between Rs 1.50 lakh and Rs 1.55 lakh.
The board has issued notices, directing residents to vacate the flats within a month. Eviction proceedings would be initiated against those failing to comply with the direction.

The board has warned the remaining defaulters, who owe Rs 1 lakh or more, to clear the dues or face similar action.
