Chandigarh, June 3

People in the city will be able to book community centres, which were closed in March due to Covid-19, from tomorrow.

There are 42 community centres and barring seven, all will be thrown open for booking. The community centres at Sector 23-D, 47-B, 49, Sarangpur, Dhanas and two in Maloya will not be available for booking as these have been reserved as quarantine/isolation facilities.

Barring seven, all available

There are 42 community centres and barring seven, all will be thrown open for booking. The community centres at Sector 23-D, 47-B, 49, Sarangpur, Dhanas and two in Maloya will not be available for booking as these have been reserved as quarantine/isolation facilities.

Functions can be organised after June 8. The centres can be booked only for two purposes — marriage and bhog. A maximum of 50 persons can participate in a marriage function, while for bhog, a maximum of 20 persons will be allowed. The participants will have to wear masks and follow social distancing norms.

“They will be told to adhere to the guidelines of the Health Ministry. Organisers will be held responsible for violations, if any. Our volunteers will also keep an eye. We will get all centres sanitised before June 7,” said an MC official.

A community centre can be booked at a cost ranging between Rs29,000 and Rs50,000 depending on the category and area. The civic body faced a loss of nearly Rs70 lakh due to the closure of the centres all these days. It earns about Rs1 lakh per day on an average.

Submit account details for refund

The MC House has already approved to refund Rs65 lakh booking fee of 498 persons. The bookings were made in advance for April and May for community centres. People will have to submit their account details at the Sector 17 MC office to get an online refund.
