Over eight months after a team of the NCERT conducted a raid at Happy Book Depot, Sector 22, in connection with the sale of duplicate books, the UT police have registered a case under the Copyright Act against the store owner.

During a raid carried out at the depot in April, a team of the NCERT had seized 38 books, which were suspected to be pirated or duplicate. The books didn’t have the NCERT watermark. These books were sent to the publication department of the NCERT, New Delhi, for lab test.

Meanwhile, Vigilance sleuths also investigated the matter, following which a case under Section 63 (offence of infringement of copyright or other rights conferred by this act) of the Copyright Act has been registered at the Sector 17 police station.

The police said they would investigate where were the fake books published and who else was involved in the ‘racket’.

The matter pertaining to the fake NCERT books being available in the market came to the fore after the UT Education Department received a complaint.
