Briefly: Passport Seva site unavailable
Chandigarh: The Regional Passport Office here has stated that the Passport Seva portal will undergo maintenance from August 29 to September 2, during which the system will be unavailable. Officials said all appointments scheduled for August 30 have been cancelled. The general enquiry counter at the main office in Sector 34 will be closed on August 30.
Janmashtami celebrated
Chandigarh: Krishna Janmashtami was celebrated by Yoga Abhyas Sansthan at Sukhna Lake. The celebration commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Kaur Sain, the oldest member of the organisation. Dressed in traditional dresses, devotees performed captivating dances to honour Lord Krishna. Nuisance in Sector 22 park
Chandigarh: A Sector 22-A resident, CS Sharma, has written to the MC over nuisance in a park in the area. He stated that some people had dismantled eight benches in the park and later created nuisance by releasing tertiary water. TNS
City girl wins boxing gold
Chandigarh: Gurseerat Kaur (14), a student of Mount Carmel School, Sector 47, bagged gold medal in the ASBC Asian Junior & Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championship trials held in Rohtak. She will now participate in the ASBC Asian Junior & Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championship to be held in Al Ain city, Abu Dhabi, from August 27 to September 10. TNS
Golf: Vedaansh gets silver
Chandigarh: Vedaansh Jain, a student of Strawberry Fields High School, Sector 26, claimed the second position in the Taiwan Open Junior Golf Meet. Vedaansh represented India in the E category at the Miramar Golf & Country Club. This was his second international tournament, after he had finished runner-up in a tournament held at Bangkok in April this year. He practises at Chandigarh Golf. TNS
Sports meet organised
Chandigarh: Navya Tuli, a student of Strawberry Fields High School, Sector 26, organised ‘Udaan Ki Daud’ sports meet. The event was designed specifically to empower young girls with special social needs. The meet featured enthusiastic participation from children from three childcare institutes of the tricity, including Bal Sadan, Gur Aasra and Snehalaya. Many events such as 100m, 200m, hurdle race, 400m relay race, and tug of war were conducted to boost the young girls to adopt a sport. TNS
Hridyansh bags sqay bronze
Panchkula: Hridyansh Malhotra of The Bharat School won bronze medal in the 37th National Games for Sqay held in Goa. He has been awarded a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh for the achievement. Peace Zone log win in cricket
Chandigarh: Ripudaman Singh bagged four wickets to help Peace Zone defeat Terrace Zone by eight wickets in a one-sided affair of the Men's U-23 One Day Tournament. Batting first, Terrace Zone were bundled out for 124. In reply, Peace Zone surpassed the target in the 21st over at the loss of two wickets. Skipper Arnav Bansal scored the highest 83 runs.
