Briefly: Youth killed as truck hits bike

A youth died while his friend got injured after a truck hit their bike near the Raipur Kalan T-point here on Monday evening. The deceased was identified as Arman (20). The police impounded the truck. A case has been registered. TNS

Labourer killed as earth caves in

A labourer lost his life after being buried under soil at the PEC Campus in Sector 12 here on Monday. The incident occurred while the work to lay a drainage pipeline was on. The victim was identified as Akalu from West Bengal, 50. Two other labourers, Haru and Shivnath, had a narrow escape.

53 attend judges’ seminar

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Archery Association, under the aegis of the Archery Association of India, is conducting a north zone judges' seminar and certificate course. The seminar is being attended by 53 participants from seven states reflecting a robust interest in the development and standardisation of judging practices in the sport. Dr Brijesh and Ravinder Sharma are leading sessions as facilitators.

Minerva subdue Bhaichung Bhutia in U-17 Youth League

Mohali: Minerva Academy U-17 Football Club recorded a 5-0 win over Bhaichung Bhutia Football School during the ongoing U-17 Youth League. Azlaan opened scoring for Minerva in the game and there was no looking back from there. Azlaan was the star of the show, scoring two goals to lead Minerva Academy charge. Kilong, Raj and Kipgen added a goal each, completing the 5-0 rout. Minerva Academy has been pooled with Delhi FC, Sudeva Delhi and Sri Dashmesh Martial SA in the meet.

St Joseph’s beat Appollo by 51 runs

Chandigarh: Arindham Chadha scored 32 runs and claimed 4/27 to help St Joseph's School, Sector 44, beat Appollo International School, Panipat, by 51 runs in the New Year Cricket U-16 Series. Batting first, the local team scored 260/6 in 35 overs with the help of Arush Sharma (88), Geetika Garg (67), Chadha (32) and Rounak Kumar (16). In reply, the Panipat team posted 209 in 31.5 overs. Mayank Jangra (48), Anirudh Vats (31), Tejas (26) and Ridhiman (15) were the main contributors in the total. Chadha picked 4/27, while Rounak Kumar (3/22) and Abdul Wajid (3/38) were the other main wicket takers for the side.

178 participate in Golf Club Par 3 Masters Meet

Panchkula: Rajat Seth and GC Sharma claimed top two positions, respectively, in the Panchkula Golf Club Par3 Masters Meet. In the women's category, Kamlesh Khanna claimed the first position and Shalini Sheron finished at the second spot. The event of Closest-to-the-Pin was won by TP Singh. As many as 178 golfers, including club members and special invitees, participated in the event.

CWN defeat Devansh Academy in RP Singh cricket tourney

Chandigarh: CWN Academy defeated Devansh Sharma Cricket Academy by five wickets in the inaugural match of the third RP Singh U-16 Memorial Cricket Tournament. Batting first, Devansh Academy batters were restricted to 80/9 in allotted 22 overs. Rudhra (16) was the highest scorer for the side, while Kunwar Jhamb scored 11. Vishal claimed three and Drishti took two wickets for the bowling side. In reply, CWN lads achieved the target in 16.1 overs with the help of Yuvraj Singh (49) and Lakshveer (15). Alif Ansari claimed four and Vihaan Tayal took one wicket for the bowling side. In the second match, Chandigarh Hawks Cricket Academy beat CL Champs Cricket Academy by eight wickets.

UT official selected for Kho Kho World Cup

Chandigarh: A local official Sarbjit Singh has been appointed as technical official by the Kho Kho Federation of India for the first Kho Kho World Cup being held in New Delhi. The world cup is being held for the first time and Sarbjit Singh is the only official from the city to be picked for the tournament as a technical official.
