Chandigarh, June 18

To promote and preserve Indian classical arts and provide platform to young and emerging artistes, Prachin Kala Kendra organised a special musical programme “Surotal Sussajjit Sandhya” in which five budding artistes Ujjvala Murugan, Suhani Sharma Padmakar Kashyap, Riya Aggarwal and Shraddha Muralidharan of the City Beautiful presented their performances.

Ujjvala, a student of Class XI, took the centre stage and chose Raga Bageshree. Suhani, a student of Class X, presented traditional peshkar, rele, kayde, gaten etc set to teen taal on tabla. She won a lot of praise by her vigorous performance. Padmakar presented the composition “Pratham Kar Om” in Jhaptal and at the end of his performance, bhajan “Aise Hi Guru Bhave” received accolades from the audience.

Shraddha presented Badab khyal’s bandish “Ka Se Kahun Mann Ki Vytha” in Raga Bihag set to Chatush Taal. She concluded her recital with a beautiful bhajan “Mann lago mera yaar fakiri mein”. The concluding presentation was a captivating Kathak performance by Riya Agarwal.
